AmSoft won the design and delivery of a Template Management system to enable live scoring and results overlaid on the TV feed for Barcelona Olympics, 1992. The solution abstracted each graphic as a template with data fields mapped to the Results and Timings data stream. Once selected, the template was rendered live, pulling the static elements and dynamic score and timing data in real-time. Our solution served all 25 sports across 43 venues; and set the gold standard for live TV coverage of sports events.

THE PROBLEM
Live TV producers want to be in control, and dislike it when they are downstream to graphics, programmers or designers. It is because live play does not wait for graphics or scores, but there is a lag between a producer asking for it, and the graphics team delivering it. The delay can cause missing an opportune moment.
THE SOLUTION
We enabled the producer to treat graphics just like any other video source. They used a touch screen and a video switcher like interface to select the graphics template. The template would immediately go on to preview, and our system updated it with the latest data. The producer could take it on-air at the right moment without any delay.
HOW IT WORKS
We worked with the graphic designers and transformed their designed pages into templates with dynamic elements such as live score, timing, and other dynamic data. The static elements, such as team attributes (name, flag, country, rank), and player profiles, were mapped to database fields. When the producer called a graphic page, we fetched the static and the dynamic elements and rendered the template in real-time.
